In the same flower bed were some snowdrops still out in bloom alongside both yellow and purple crocus. I again tackled the main sketch with random pen marks, followed up by watercolour washes and spontaneous marks to bring it together. Then decided to have fun on the double spread by putting the golden crocus inside a border of stylized snowdrops to the left of the main study.
Seems being laid up at home for a few days during the first of the Spring sunshine has proved quite useful to get my garden sketchbook going again. I noticed a group of little violets yesterday against the stone wall, alongside a violet flower pot with pale lemon daffodils. Think it will make a lovely little study over the weekend.

Joan I love how you sketched the crocus! They are so springlike and cheerful.
Beautiful paintings and great idea - hope your knee is healing well.
Don't know where you get the time, you must just be sitting around with your feet up :)
You need to think about creating a book to publish with your wonderful florals in it. And get that knee moving as fast as you can. Hope your recovery is speedy.
Thanks everyone. I must say I thoroughly enjoyed doing these small works - seem so free after tackling full size paintings of late. Knee doing well - Dear Sandra took me out food gathering this morning and I seemed to be walking tall but shattered by the time we got home.
Oh my, FRAME these. JUst wonderful love the compostions.
Joan you put me to shame with your garden book, I started one well before you and haven't added to it in around 2 years!!! These are just wonderful, so loose and full of energy.
Hope you are looking after yourself, can't wait to come stay!
So wonderful!
I wish we had snowdrops. They're one of my favorite flowers but I've never seen a live one, just pictures or paintings like yours. It makes me really see one for real!
Lovely sketches...LOVE the crocus spread, your notes and the color swatches...Delightful! :)
